Community & Event Code of Conduct

Tessitura is dedicated to a positive, safe and harassment-free event experience for all participants.

The Tessitura community is a thriving and collaborative home for Tessitura arts and culture professionals to grow, be inspired and give back. We champion and foster community-driven collaboration and elevate community voices and experiences. Community activity includes any online participation in our forums, Tessitura community groups, virtual events and across our website, as well as in-person participation at Tessitura Learning & Community Conferences (TLCC) and Tessitura community group events.

Tessitura is dedicated to a positive, safe and harassment-free experience in which diverse participants may learn, network and enjoy the company of colleagues in an environment of mutual human respect regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, color, immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, mental and physical ability, age, size, family status, political belief and religion.

Every member has a right to feel welcomed, valued and respected. Fostering an environment of respect is everyone’s responsibility. Harassment, therefore, is specifically prohibited.

Harassment is any verbal or non-verbal behavior that threatens another person or group and that reinforces social structures of domination related to race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, color, immigration status, social and economic class, educational level, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, mental and physical ability, age, size, family status, political belief and religion. Examples of harassing behavior include:

  • Violence, threats of violence or violent language directed against another person or group of people.

  • Sexist, racist, homophobic, transphobic, ableist or otherwise discriminatory jokes and language.

  • Posting or displaying sexually explicit or violent material.

  • Posting or threatening to post other people’s personally identifying information.

  • Personal insults, particularly those related to gender, sexual orientation, race, religion, disability or physical appearance.

  • Inappropriate photography or recording, including photography or recording without prior consent.

  • Unwelcome sexual attention. This includes sexualized comments or jokes and unwelcome sexual advances.

  • Deliberate intimidation or stalking.

  • Sustained disruption of any event, including talks and presentations.

  • Advocating for or encouraging any of the above behavior.

All participants are expected to observe these rules and behaviors in all forums, online groups and events, including any sponsor events that may be held in conjunction with any conference or event. Speakers are asked to frame discussions as openly or inclusively as possible, and to be aware of how language or images may be perceived by others, especially given the diversity of this community.

Participants seek to learn, network and have fun. Please do so responsibly and with respect for the rights of others to do likewise. Participants who are asked to stop a hostile or harassing behavior are expected to comply immediately. If a participant engages in unacceptable behavior, Tessitura may take any action deemed appropriate, up to and including expulsion from the event or online community without warning or refund and sanctioning from future events or online participation.

For in-person events, Tessitura is committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for all participants, sponsors, and staff. We continuously monitor the potential for COVID surges and other possible health concerns. Should the need for health and/or safety preventative measures arise, our decisions and preventive measures will be guided by the requirements of the host property, as well as recommendations from local authorities, such as the CDC, WHO, etc. Any measures set forth for the event will be communicated to participants.

Harassment and other code of conduct violations reduce the value of the community experience for everyone. If you are subject to or witness unacceptable behavior, or have any other concerns, please notify us as soon as possible. You may request that your report remain confidential.

Additional guidelines for sponsors

Use of conference materials: All information and materials provided by Tessitura (including but not limited to any printed materials or electronic media) is confidential and proprietary to Tessitura and is intended to be used by sponsors solely for planning and promotion of sponsor-hosted events at TLCC. Sponsors shall not use the conference materials provided by Tessitura in their promotional materials unrelated to TLCC, nor may they leverage the conference materials after the conference has concluded.

Session attendance policy: We invite sponsors to attend general sessions and breakout sessions to learn more about Tessitura and its members. Sponsors are not permitted to attend other sponsors’ sessions.

For sessions designed to foster open discussion among Tessitura members (e.g., community discussions), sponsors are asked to use sensitivity in determining attendance based on the nature of the discussion.

For all sessions attended as an audience member, we ask our sponsors to respect the open exchange of information between Tessitura members and refrain from any interference, self-promotion, or offering of products/services.

Any violation of these policies is grounds for removal from TLCC.

If you have any questions about the policies outlined in the Sponsor section of the Conference Code of Conduct, please contact Rebecca Herberson at rherberson@tessituranetwork.com.
